Pyre is a sprawling fantasy city, the heart, body and soul of a kingdom by the same name. Set beside a sea, surrounding a bay among other features, Pyre is sandwiched by a vast and deep wilderness. Over the years it has grown inwards due to its isolated location, built into a kind of metropolis, where space has been filled in any way possible, including aerial walkways and floating islands.
As with any city, districts have arisen to divide the area. Warehouse, Fishing, Shopping, and Residential districts are just to name a few. Of course, no city would be complete without a Slum of its very own, highlighted only by the castle where its government makes its home.
It is ruled over by a parliamentary monarchy–with the Council at its head. Law Enforcers are commanded by the government to keep peace and order. However, there is a cult known as the Order, who tries to institute and enforce its own laws, where certain magic is banned. Outside of this dispute, two gangs wage their own battles. Through all of this, civilians still try and make their home within the walls of Pyre.
Warehouse District. Home to factories and old warehouses, this district serves no residential function. It is frequented more by shady individuals who need a place to avoid prying eyes.
Fishing District. The fishing district runs along the coast of Pyre. It is almost always bustling with the onloading and offloading of shipments and crew. Careful where you step, however, it's known for being a bit slick.
Red Light District. Located next to the slums, the red light is a district known for criminal activity of all sorts. Drugs sex and violence are rampant here. For those 'adventurous' types, if they can hold their own, a living can be made beneath the crimson streetlights.
City Center. The heart of Pyre and by far one of the busiest places, City Center serves as a crossroads for the best and most frequented districts. Within the city center is also the Airship docks, a large station-like portion of the city where airships arrive and depart, usually bringing students to school or aristocrats to important meetings.
Commercial District. Here you can find almost anything. Markets, taverns, inns and artisan stores fill this district to the brim. All money in Pyre passes through here at some point or another. Whatever you need, the commercial district will have it. Watch out though, its known to be a favorite hangout for thieves and pickpockets for that same reason.
Residential District. One of the largest districts in the city, the residential district is home to all levels of income, separate of course, and a majority of Pyre's population. Although it is not as crime ridden as other locations, being gang territory has lead to caution being needed when passing through. Chances are, most of your characters will find themselves living here.
Educational District. The educational district is one of the most unique districts in Pyre. It floats above the city on a levitated island. It is home to a massive school where students from ages 5 to 18 call home. Set up much like a college, students of all ages are found on the same campus, within separate schools. Other childcare facilities also exist on the island including an orphanage.
Entertainment District. The entertainment district is home to one of the more unique features of Pyre–a Colosseum wherein gladiatorial games among other events are held. Not all these games are with sword and shield- with magic being commonplace, certain unique events can occur. Beside this, the entertainment district is home also to theaters, poetry houses, and dance studios. Anything that might fill pleasure time can usually be found here.
The Slums. No city is complete without the slums. Though some people make this their home, it is almost a city of its own, devoid of money and upkeep. A haven for criminals, anyone who can avoid it, usually does. If you plan to visit, wear good shoes, its known to be dirty.
The Outskirts. The outskirts lie between the city and the sea. Tho it is mostly farm and grassland, it has one unique feature. The Church of the Order can be found here, far from authorities that might destroy them, and isolated enough to prevent their victims from being found. If one is able to make their home here, they can find seclusion from the violence and crime that plague the rest of the city.
